What my kids planned for Labor Day

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 09/03/2013 - 5:18pm

Well, we had a nice Labor Day weekend... a little beach, a little pool, a little shopping. Pretty much something for everyone.

This year my kids made the connection that "labor" means "work," so they decided Labor Day should be a work day around the house. This realization occurred on Sunday, so that evening they began cleaning up. How cool is that?!

How do you battle the accumulation of kid clutter in your home?

by Traci Schumacher on Fri, 04/19/2013 - 11:53am

How do you handle all of your kid's toys and trinkets? My children tend to be on the pack rat end of the spectrum. They love their stuff. When asked if we can get rid of something, they immediately protest. They will cite the importance of that particular piece of plastic based on its connection to their preschool teacher, for example.

So I have a dilemma. As more stuff comes into our home, other stuff must move out. Do I make the kids decide what to pass on to others or do I decide while they are not home?

Finding the cause of the strange, bad smell in my daughter's room

by Traci Schumacher on Fri, 02/15/2013 - 12:49pm

Yesterday I discovered the source of the strange, foul smell we had been noticing on and off in my daughter's room. It was an elusive odor, faint but definitely bad. My husband even suggested there might be a small dead animal in hiding.

Can rearranging toys make them more fun?

I'm having the carpets cleaned tomorrow, so I've been busily moving as much stuff off the carpets as possible. Thus, toys and small pieces of furniture are in different places than usual.

What surprises me (pleasantly) is how simply moving a neglected toy to a new location seems to give it new life. Suddenly my kids are playing again with toys they had apparently forgotten. Perhaps it helps them to see things in a new light.

Save BIG $$$$ Cleaning!!!

As a new Stay at Home Mommie, I find myself with more time on my hands. I've decided to try to cut some of family's expenses by doing somethings my making instead of buying our cleaning solutions.
