Springtime hiking at Fort McAllister

by Traci Schumacher on Mon, 03/10/2014 - 9:58am

Spring came to visit yesterday with her sparkling sunshine and warm breezes. In celebration, our family hit the trails at Fort McAllister State Park near Richmond Hill. My husband and I guided our merry band of children and dogs as they happily bounded down the trail. Even our 4-year-old, who sometimes mysteriously “can't walk,” zipped along pretending he was riding an electric bobcat (yeah, I don't know).

Getting ready for Christmas

by Traci Schumacher on Mon, 12/23/2013 - 10:48pm

Are you ready for Christmas? Now there's a loaded question. And my answer so often seems to be a resounding yes and no.

Yes, as far as the big things go, I'm ready. My heart and mind are focused. Essential gifts have been wrapped. If Christmas were to surprise us all and show up a day early, I'd be fine. We're good.

Hunter Cattle Company's Farm Heritage Day was great family fun

by Traci Schumacher on Sun, 09/22/2013 - 8:17pm

On Saturday our family went to the Hunter Cattle Company's Farm Heritage Day near Brooklet, and we had a grand time. Following a relaxing 40-minute drive through beautiful Georgia farm land, we arrived at the farm. The kids enjoyed riding horses and ponies, watching a goat milking demonstration, riding the mini train ride, chasing chickens, touring the farm by wagon, and simply playing.

A family turning grief into blessing... and how you can help

by Traci Schumacher on Fri, 08/16/2013 - 8:10am

Dealing with the loss of a child is heartbreaking and devastating, but one local couple chooses to act out in love “to honor the short but precious life” of their little one. Confident that God had a purpose for their child's life, Paul and Kim Zellner decided to do a service project each year. They call it Caleb's Project after their son, Caleb Paul Zellner, and they encourage others to join them.

So I got my new bike for Christmas, and we have been trying to do family bike rides. Last weekend we ventured north to Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, located between Bluffton and Hilton Head. There is no admission fee, and the gate currently closes at 6:00pm.

Easy Trip to the Zoo is Fun for the Whole Family

by Traci Schumacher on Mon, 01/03/2011 - 10:03pm

To celebrate the first Monday of the new year, our family went to the zoo, of course! We drove two hours to Jacksonville, and enjoyed the leopards, kangaroos, primates, and all their cohorts immensely. I've always loved going to zoos – even as an adult without children – but it's even better with kids along. They get so excited about the animals and aren't afraid to let it show. And a zoo is a great place for kids to run around and learn something at the same time.
