When the path to school is lined with cicadas and worms

by Traci Schumacher on Sat, 08/31/2013 - 3:06pm

This school year I've been making a point of walking my kids to school in the morning. It starts our day out with a little exercise and fresh air, and gives us some nice time together. Plus, I've read a couple of articles about how physical activity, and especially walking to school in the morning, really sets kids up for success throughout their school day, making them more alert and better able to learn.

Bug Hunting Season

by Traci Schumacher on Thu, 06/10/2010 - 8:20pm

It's bug hunting season at our house again. My kids are on the look-out for grasshoppers, ladybugs, caterpillars, even slugs (though I try not to let them touch the slugs – yuck!). Almost any little crawly thing is fair game, and may soon find itself peering out through a bug cage or plastic container (with small air holes poked through the top, of course). My daughter and son try to take good care of their little friends, decorating their temporary homes with grass (everything likes grass, right?), twigs, maybe some seeds the bugs might want to eat.
