Reconciling myself to the ebb and flow of clutter

I suppose every home has a collecting spot. Or at least I like to think that it's not just mine. In our home, the collecting spot is the love seat in the living room. It's the primary place where things gather temporarily. Mail and other assorted papers, shopping bags, laundry to fold, random toys, etc. They are not meant to stay there, but they wait patiently for their next destination.

Too many stuffed animals... plus one

Our home is being overrun with stuffed animals. Just ask my husband, who has vowed never to buy the kids another stuffed animal. Ever. So this week, of course, I took my youngest to Build-A-Bear where he used his birthday money to buy a new dog. (Sorry, honey!)

The mysterious entertainment value of an ottoman

Today I thought I would rearrange some furniture in my house. Nothing major – just a couple of ottomans. So I moved one ottoman in front of the sofa in the living room as a kind of casual take on a coffee table that doubles as extra seating. I wasn't entirely sold on the idea, but thought it would be good to give it a test run.
