Fish tanks without the hassle of live (or dead) fish

by Traci Schumacher on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 4:02pm

My kids are crazy about animals. Therefore, we have a lot of small plastic animals – you know, the kind that come in those tubes at the craft stores. We can throw a handful of plastic animals into a small box or bag and away we go. Portable entertainment!

Our Oatland Island birthday party was fun, educational, and charitable

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 02/21/2012 - 3:35pm

We had a birthday extravaganza weekend in our family, celebrating my daughter's 8th and my son's upcoming 6th birthdays. After agonizing over what to do for their birthdays, in just a couple of weeks I planned a birthday party at Oatland Island Wildlife Center for the two of them and about 10 of their closest friends.

For the final day of 2011 our family
drove 2 ½ hours to Columbia, SC to hang out with the critters at
Riverbanks Zoo (www.riverbanks.org).

Animal rescue fun at the pool

by Traci Schumacher on Fri, 07/01/2011 - 4:28pm

An afternoon visit to the pool recently transformed into an animal rescue mission for my kids and their cousins – which they loved!

It started with my curious son opening a drain cover near the kiddie pool. Inside he found a live frog that was trapped. There was a whirlwind of kid excitement as my son scooped the frog out and showed it to everyone. Then they set it free through the fence.

Naturally, the other drains then had to be inspected for frogs. They sadly yielded only two dead frogs.

You can now dial 311 for animal complaints

by Coastal Mommies... on Wed, 06/02/2010 - 12:33pm

Citizens within the City of Savannah can now use The City of
Savannah's non-emergency customer service line, 311, for animal
complaints.

Use of the 311 system should provide a more efficient
response when reporting animal cruelty, dogs at large, tethered dogs,
and to request traps, said Savannah-Chatham metro police spokeswoman
Gena Moore.
