MOMSnext encourages moms of school-aged kids

by Traci Schumacher on Mon, 10/17/2011 - 9:15am

Our kids didn't come with instruction manuals, so sometimes as moms we're not really sure what we're doing or should be doing or if anyone else is dealing with the same issues. Need a little encouragement, some fresh ideas, someone to listen? You might try attending a MOMSnext meeting.

MOMSnext is a great group for mothers of school-aged children to come together to encourage, to be encouraged, and to share in each others' lives while facing the challenges of parenting their school-aged kids.

Lazy Mom For a Day

by Traci Schumacher on Thu, 12/02/2010 - 10:23pm

On Tuesday I was Lazy Mom. In case you're not familiar with her, let me explain. Lazy Mom avoids hassles with her children to make things easy. She lets them have their way and avoids conflict. So I let my older two kids play on the computer to their hearts' content (gasp!). Or at least until dinner. They were having fun, not fighting, not complaining, not bored.

A gift that lasts

LESSONS FROM STANLEY THE CAT is my favorite gift of the season.

WHY?  This book teaches us how to be more joyful, thoughtful, observant, and loving.

It is the type of book that I can pick up at any time and learn something valuable for that moment.

A bonus right now is that there is a contest at where you can win $1000 by submitting your favorite pet photo.

Good things should be shared!

Q. "Last year my son had numerous problems at school with misbehaving. He was put in detention several times for not listening to his teacher. I am worried that this behavior will begin again this year. What can I do?

A. Some students have gone back to school and others will do so within a couple of weeks.

In school, it is inevitable that some children will exhibit behavior problems. These problems might include disruptive talking in the classroom, name-calling or fighting.
