As I was clicking around online I came across a list of summer activities “to entertain” the kids, and it made me stop and think. Just how much entertaining do our kids require?

It's summertime! And just what are we going to do with the kids? If you're like me, you brainstorm a variety of activities to keep the little ones busy and amused. Fun things, easy things, educational things, active things. Summer camps, crafts, day trips. The list can go on and on.

Finally, a day of sunshine! I was planning on sharing another project to keep the kids busy this summer but that will have to wait! The girls and I met some friends at Ottawa Farms in Bloomingdale today and picked blackberries.  It is so much fun- you’re spending quality time with your kids and you have something to show for it afterwards (unlike going to the movies). In our case, we had ten pounds of blackberries and three pounds of discounted blueberries (the blueberries were overripe and only $1.50 a pound.

We are in the first week of summer and it looks like it’s going to be raining again! Take the time now to decide what you want to do this summer! The girls and I made our Summer Bucket List a couple of weeks ago but it is never too late to start one!

On Saturday our family celebrated World Oceans Day at the UGA Aquarium on Skidaway Island. Admission was free for the day, and there were crafts, a treasure hunt, and story times for the kids.

The aquarium debuted the new exhibit, “Sea Jellies of the Georgia Coast,” which currently features locally caught comb jellies. The display is mesmerizing in a giant lava lamp sort of way with slowly changing colors showing off the little jellies.

Summer is here! Our whole family is looking forward to a slower pace. Usually the first few days are lazy, with nothing scheduled. But then, the girls start getting bored. This year, I have come up with some activities to keep the girls entertained but not too busy!

My girls love art and doodling but sometimes if I tell them just to draw they have a hard time deciding what to draw. I decided to make them a Summer Art Journal. All you need is a sketch pad/drawing pad. Sketch pads are very inexpensive,  I found mine at the Dollar Tree.

drove 2 ½ hours to Columbia, SC to hang out with the critters at
Riverbanks Zoo (www.riverbanks.org).
It was a beautiful day, and the zoo was a real treat for all of us.

The Flying Frogs will be holding a Halloween costume contest on Saturday, October 30 from 6 to 8 pm.  Childrens' costumes will be judged and prizes will be awarded.
