Overreaction to 6-year-old "shooting" classmate with his finger?

by Traci Schumacher on Thu, 01/03/2013 - 1:02pm

Did you see the news story today about a Maryland 6-year-old boy who was suspended from school for a day for making a “gun” with his thumb and forefinger and “shooting” a fellow student (http://news.yahoo.com/maryland-school-suspends-six-old-boy-making-gun-120614885.html)? Seriously. I think parents of boys everywhere should be very afraid if this is what things are coming to.

Plan B: when the dog takes the boy for a walk

Sunday morning we found ourselves in the usual last-minute crunch to get out the door and try to make it to church on time (or at least close to it). That's when I noticed my 6-year-old son was missing in action. I couldn't find him in the house, and he didn't answer when I called.

What to do when your son thinks he's big enough to use the men's restroom on his own?

by Traci Schumacher on Wed, 07/18/2012 - 9:49pm

Kids grow up so fast. Right before your very eyes, they transform from wearing diapers to potty training to wanting to use a public restroom by themselves. So at what age do you let your child use the public restroom by himself?

Words aren't enough for this dad

by MJarrell on Sun, 06/20/2010 - 3:33pm

Because sometimes words aren't enough (or they are too much), I have decided to post a few family photos that capture Ryan with our precious boys. He is our hero and the definition of every little boy's dream of a dad.

Check out my precious boys and their daddy, and thank a daddy today!

Boys Will Be Boys

by Traci Schumacher on Wed, 05/19/2010 - 9:09pm

Why do boys and girls show different preferences and behaviors? Is it due to genetics or socialization? Before having kids it was all just theory to me, but when my daughter came on the scene my husband and I were surprised by the way she automatically chose “girl” toys over “boy” toys when given the choice. Two years later our son came along with his innate obsession with anything with wheels. And now our third child, another baby boy, is surrounded by toys galore – from Barbie princesses to Tonka dump trucks – and what do we find?

Summer Camp Disappointment

by The Coastal Mommie on Mon, 03/30/2009 - 5:36pm

I am truly disappointed by the great number of summer camps the Savannah Area has to offer..... How am I supposed to choose? The Ymca, all of the private schools, the City, small business start ups.....Just WAY to many to get my head around. Ok I have my favorites like, the cooking school for kids, the dance classes, or Gymnastics at the Summit, but what does my 6 year old BOY want to do? I don't think he wants to make cookies and Quiche all week, but should he rough house at football camp?
