Almost school time again... remembering to make the most of every season

by Traci Schumacher on Wed, 07/31/2013 - 10:50am

Soon the school bells will be ringing and the children will be filling their classrooms. Many kids are dreading this return to the school year routine. My son said just the other day that he wishes he didn't have to go to school.

Looking back on my own childhood, I remember the feeling of dread just before the start of a new school year. It's that uncertainty of how things will play out. It's also simply the disruption of the comfortable summer life with hardly a care in the world. Change can be challenging after all.

Resolutions? How about a New Year's theme instead?

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 01/01/2013 - 5:01pm

Happy New Year! Have you made resolutions? Goals? Plans? Do you dare to hope to change your life for the better in 2013?

It's great, probably even healthy, to have aspirations of change when beginning a new year. We desire more for ourselves and our families. It's fun and exciting and easy to dream. The trick is to actually take action, breaking our lofty plans into small, achievable steps. And then sticking with it.

First day after the break

by Traci Schumacher on Wed, 01/04/2012 - 9:50pm

So it was the first day back to school for my kiddos today. Amazingly, after waking up before 7:30 for most of the break, both of my school kids could barely open their eyes at 7:30 this morning. They were sooo tired! It was quite pitiful.

I thought they both needed to go to bed much earlier tonight to help them get off to a better start tomorrow. Of course, by the evening they were bouncing off the walls and having a grand time with all the energy in the world. It's always tricky when the routine changes. We'll see how tomorrow goes...

From Resolution to Real Change?

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 12/28/2010 - 3:16pm

The final days of 2010 are upon us, and there are whispers and hopes of resolutions to come. A new year approaches, and we try to make it better than the last. But why is it so often so hard to make the changes and stick with them? We desire to do things differently in the new year, but find ourselves lacking in follow-through.
