Here are some pretty cool things to do this weekend...

Savannah's Veterans' Day parade downtown on Saturday will start at 10:15, beginning at Abercorn St and Gwinnett St. You may want to arrive between 9:30 and 10:00 to get a good spot. Our first family camping adventure

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 10/30/2012 - 10:09am

Camping. The mere thought of the word conjures visions of the great outdoors, toasting marshmallows, hiking, and a cozy tent. The reality of this past weekend did in fact include all of these elements, mixed in with a good dose of sibling fussiness, the revelation of things forgotten, and the logistics of coping in a large group environment, all rounded out with general sleep deprivation.

A night with the stars... the twinkly kind

by Traci Schumacher on Mon, 10/22/2012 - 9:30am

Gazing at the stars can inspire a sense of wonder and awe, bringing home an awareness of the vastness of the universe and our humble place in it. This past Saturday my husband and I were able to share that experience with our children at the Stargazing in the Garden event at the Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens. The free event was a joint effort with the Oglethorpe Astronomical Society, and occurs periodically throughout the year.

Day trip: running away to the mountains for a day

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 10/16/2012 - 9:11am

I love autumn... the brisk, refreshing air, the leaves changing colors, the first sweatshirt of the season! Oh, wait... I live in Savannah where it was in the 80's yesterday. Again. While there are some perks to such a mild climate, at times I long for the true change of seasons.

Visiting the South Carolina Aquarium

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 10/02/2012 - 7:48am

The South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston is a wonderful family adventure about two and a half hours north of Savannah. Our family made the drive this weekend to see the collection of Carolinian critters.

Our day trip to Hunting Island State Park - dogs included

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 09/18/2012 - 10:00am

On Saturday our family went on an adventure to Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina, just up the road near Beaufort. It takes about an hour and a half to drive there, but the real adventure for us was that we took our two dogs along for the ride, which is something we don't normally do.

Splash in the Boro: a cool fun way to spend a hot summer day

by Traci Schumacher on Mon, 07/30/2012 - 9:18am

With four weeks left of summer break for Chatham County schools, our family is trying to make the most of our remaining time. This weekend we drove to Statesboro and spent Saturday at Splash in the Boro water park (http://splashintheboro.com). We had never been there, but had heard great things about it. We were not at all disappointed.

Fish tanks without the hassle of live (or dead) fish

My kids are crazy about animals. Therefore, we have a lot of small plastic animals – you know, the kind that come in those tubes at the craft stores. We can throw a handful of plastic animals into a small box or bag and away we go. Portable entertainment!

COASTAL CHEER CAT ALLSTARS!! COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING IN SAVANNAH!!!

by jamiedavis2 on Thu, 05/10/2012 - 10:32am

Coastal Cheer Cats is a competitive All Star Cheerleading team consisting of kids from all over the Savannah area. We travel around the Southeast to compete against other All Star Cheerleading teams. The routines are 2 1/2 minutes of stunts, tumbling, dance, cheer, and jumps. Our goal is to teach each individual to be the best that they can be while learning in a positive gym environment. We teach teamwork, dedication, and commitment.
