You know how little children tend to bond with some “lovey” that they will take along with them to different places and sleep with? Well, my kids have all preferred tiny little objects to treasure... just the right size to get lost easily.
My daughter had a small blue piece of plastic that came with a ride-on toy. She would clutch it in her little hand and go about her day. My older son had a tiny blue plastic dog, aptly named Blue Dog, that I finally had to tie onto a long red string to keep from losing it – and we still spent hours searching for it from time to time.
My toddler currently has a collection of four small plastic objects that he must sleep with. There's Man, a small red plastic parachute guy minus the parachute. Then Green is an even tinier green army guy that I don't even know where it came from. Bunny is a little blue bunny who hops if you can push on his tail just right. Finally, there's Baby, a brown naked plastic baby that came with the king cake we bought around Mardis Gras.
Recently my little one lost Man, who seems to be his favorite of the bunch. For three days, at naptime and bedtime my son would ask, “Man?” I would tell him we couldn't find Man, but that we would look again. “Oh,” was his sad reply.
After I put him to bed I would again rack my brain and search the house for the little red parachute guy. By chance, I finally found him riding in the back of my older son's toy ambulance, and balance and harmony were restored to our home.
Do your kids have any funny favorites that drive you and them crazy when they get lost?
