Why we celebrate our family story

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 04/29/2014 - 10:01am

This weekend my husband and I treated our kids to ice cream at Dairy Queen as part of our little guy's birthday celebration weekend. As we sat around the table with our cool treats, our 8-year-old, with a twinkle in his eyes, requested, “Tell us again how much trouble we used to be!” His brother and sister cheered in agreement.

Which Facebook quiz are you?

by Traci Schumacher on Thu, 04/10/2014 - 12:45pm

Have you taken any of the numerous quizzes on Facebook? By answering a few questions, you can discover what movie character you are, the country or city you should live in, what kind of parent you are, and so on. Oooh, very interesting!

Living with Superman

by Traci Schumacher on Fri, 04/04/2014 - 11:10am

You probably didn't know this, but I live with Superman. Most of the time he is undercover as a preschooler who goes by the name Evan. But then duty calls, and he transforms into his superhuman self, cape and all.

Sometimes Superman likes to go to Target. We went the other day, and our fellow shoppers were clearly impressed by the sight of the Man of Steel. It's not every day that he walks so openly among the public.

How my 4-year-old's expectations changed the value of a quarter

by Traci Schumacher on Tue, 03/18/2014 - 11:12am

So my children were all playing on electronics recently when I told them it was time to move on to other pursuits. My 4-year-old promptly logged off the computer while his older sister and brother tried to wrap up their games.

I happened to have a quarter in my pocket, so just for fun I gave it to my little guy as a spontaneous reward for being the first to do as I had asked. I do not usually reward my kids like that for simply doing what I ask. I expected him to be happy with the little gift.

Springtime hiking at Fort McAllister

by Traci Schumacher on Mon, 03/10/2014 - 10:58am

Spring came to visit yesterday with her sparkling sunshine and warm breezes. In celebration, our family hit the trails at Fort McAllister State Park near Richmond Hill. My husband and I guided our merry band of children and dogs as they happily bounded down the trail. Even our 4-year-old, who sometimes mysteriously “can't walk,” zipped along pretending he was riding an electric bobcat (yeah, I don't know).
