Southern hospitality linked to weather

by The Coastal Mommie on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 11:12am

While visiting friends in Rhode Island I got a whiff of that Up North attitude. People there are generally nice. It's a, You get what you give type of mentality. On the days that were unseasonably warm I received a lot more, Hellos, Thank Yous and Good Mornings. When the wind blew 40 degree frigide air I people were a lot less friendly. Down South when our weather gets bad it's only natural that we turn to the person next to us and comment about who ungodly the heat is. My educated guess is when cold you focus on self, your center, your core.

Impressed by reality

by The Coastal Mommie on Sat, 03/10/2012 - 7:24pm

Egypt laid down for a late nap and instead of doing the dishes or some other householdchore I propped my feet up to watch some reality t.v. Normally I expect nudity, vulgarity, permiscuity aamity other "ity" available but I wasactually I impressed! "The Voice" on E Network in syndication, is amazing. Two. Compeditors belted U2's Beautiful Day.....I was blown away! Like everyone else, I got caught up in The American Idol Frenzy, but the contestants on The Voice can really.....really sing. If you've missed Christina and CE LO on this reality show....You Tube it!

My Little Pony

by The Coastal Mommie on Fri, 03/09/2012 - 11:55pm

My baby girl has just discovered the joy of my past. As I am typing she is singing "My Liitle Pony"..... It's great! My Little Pony, Strawberry Short Cake, Pound Puppies are all brand new. If I only kept my dolls....uh hum.....Action Figures;)

My son has been sure to correct me. He thought Transformers, G.I. Joe and Batman were newer creations. I had to inform him that they pre date me!

So is the cost of storage worth hoarding Bennie babies for the next go round? Idk be it might be fun to try!

A day downtown

by The Coastal Mommie on Thu, 03/01/2012 - 9:31pm

As child friendly as downtown Savannah is we were surprised not to see one child tagging along with mom. While our car was being serviced baby girl and I decided to take in the sights.

The difficulty of unplugging.

Did you know American companies spend about $17 Billion annually to market to children?
Children 2-11 years old see more than 25,000 advertisements per year on t.v.
There are more than 40,000 Disney Princess items on the market today.
The average 10-year old can recognize more than 4,000 brands but can't name 10 different types of trees.

Unseasonable weather

by The Coastal Mommie on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 2:31pm

New England States in February...Burrrr

To be fair Savannah can be miserable in the summer, humidity so hot and thick you could cut it with a knife. The type of heat that is inescapable!

With that said....Thank God for mild winters!

As we stepped off of the plane that connected us from Atlanta or Providence my ankles screamed for coverage. I thought to wear tights under my Nike warmup but they hit just below the calf so the 3inches to my socks we left to the elements.

"You can do something about the cold, but you can't do anything about the humidity." That's my husband's motto.

Of all of the things....

Ever notice how everything goes wrong at once. Not on fixable thing but 5? Tornado watch with 55mph winds set to hit our area before night fall. As we make our way to SAV, the airport not the television station the maintenance required light refuses to shut off! My hubby has been driving my car while his car is under going transmission repairs.

I thank my lucky stars although I"m a sahm we have two cars. I think lawyers would be called in if I REALLY had to stay at home.

The secret of Ninjago Scavenger Hunt

We were so delighted to be able to place tablets into the hands of both of our children. At 3 and 9 years old we believe that it will help them as they grow and learn. We want our children to have open options and limitless potential. Isn't that what we all want?

Well, we are going into month 3 with Kindles and iPads and the children only want to play games and watch Netflix!

Should I have expected anything different? Although I want my children to "Do more", I have noticed that some of the game apps encourage real world/digital world cross over.

A word of advice for mommy

by The Coastal Mommie on Fri, 02/17/2012 - 4:19pm

As a mom of two, it's great to be told "You look great for having two kids!" i would rather hear "You don't look like you have any kids!" but that would require that I give up too much. To my delight I now feel as though my chemical and mental state has balance. For some moms these are two areas we overlook and underestimate the importance of.
