A happy back-to-school new year
And so they're back to school, cold weather and all. The house is quiet as pets nap and I tap away at the keyboard, alone with my thoughts, thinking.
We had a good Christmas break, complete with family and friends and fun. I was sad last night to see it end, just as I was happy this morning to send them off, bundled in their warmest coats for the brief dash from van to school building.
Today my new year begins at last. That “new year” when we imagine all things fresh and full of potential for improvement, even though it's really just the very next day in an endless string of days. But we take a deep breath anyway, and plunge ahead full of hope and new focus, and just see what we can do.
I have been waiting patiently for this day, through days of tying shoes and resolving conflicts, making lunch and finding lost toys. Through giggles and tears and joys and frustrations, my plans have waited. As any parent knows, there are some things that are best done without young children around. For me, it's things like running errands, writing, and anything requiring quiet concentration.
So now I'm full speed ahead, knocking out my tasks (like renewing my driver's license) and building toward a better future (working through an online writing course). My time, like yours, is limited, so I aim to make it count.
Minimize distractions, like those fascinating internet “rabbit trail” articles and my cat who wants to climb up the curtains. Maximize results. Focus. Only one more hour until I pick up my youngest from school...
So, happy new year! Let's see what we can do...
