Do we celebrate dads less than moms?
Do you have big plans for Father's Day this weekend? We will celebrate both with my husband's family and with my parents as we do for so many holidays. Eat some food, give a couple presents and cards, and maybe the kids will give the dads a homemade craft (if I can get them focused while their cousins are in town).
Some dads I know feel that dads on Father's Day gets less attention than moms on Mother's Day. With Father's Day falling in June, just beyond the school year's reach, there are no teachers assigning the kids creative projects to make to honor their fathers.
Some churches have special breakfasts and flowers for moms on Mother's Day. Do they do the same for dads on Father's Day? I don't know. I'll have to pay closer attention this weekend to see exactly what goes on for the fathers among us.
Maybe moms get more attention, if they do, partly because ladies enjoy that kind of thing – being fussed over and pampered - a bit more than men. Or maybe that's just an irrelevant stereotype. We'll just have to see what the weekend holds.
Regardless, let's be sure to honor the great dads in our lives, and make this Father's Day special for them. Fathers have such an important role in the lives of their children. Happy Father's Day!
