The pros and cons of finding a great babysitter
It had been a long, long time since my husband and I had hired a babysitter. We usually manage to swap sitting services with other parents or leave the kids with Grandma and Grandpa when we need to go out on our own. We didn't even know anyone else we could ask to watch the kids for us.
But this week my husband and I were going to the Matchbox 20 concert on Tuesday. It was a school night and we would be late â definitely past bedtime â so we needed to find a sitter. A friend of mine gave me the contact information for her sitter, whom she declared âthe best babysitter in the entire world.â Why would I ask anyone else?
Arrangements were made, and my older two kids were looking forward to the evening with the sitter. My little guy made it clear that he would much rather stay with Grandma.
So Tuesday came, the concert was a lot of fun, and the kids were all asleep when we got home around 11:00. Our babysitter said the children had been good, and they all seemed to have a fun time.
I turns out they did have quite a good time with the babysitter. In fact, she made such a good impression that my 7-year-old has asked every day since when my husband and I can go out again so the sitter can come back. He has even cried saying he misses her. He's a funny one... He can be difficult to reach, but once you're in his heart he's devoted.
My daughter also has asked when the babysitter can come back. And our little guy ended up enjoying himself, too.
I'm so glad everything worked out so well with our babysitter experience, although now I have to listen to the kids beg to have her come back. What's a mom to do? Being the loving mom that I am, I find myself looking for opportunities to need a babysitter, which could be a lot of fun, but not so great on the wallet if overdone. But it's for the kids... right?
