After a hot, mosquito filled summer; it is always refreshing to have some cooler weather settling in. It is also a great time to recommit to exercising with your dog. Many Savannahians are readying for the multitude of ½ and full marathons that our beautiful city is hosting. Several fundraiser walks are also on calendars and many allow the participation of your four-legged family member.
Not wanting to commit that much? How about a nice Saturday or Sunday afternoon at one of our State Parks? This year, veterinarians and GA parks collaborated on a program to allow free entrance passes for those who are exercising with their dog. The technician nutritionists at Case Veterinary Hospital have not had a lot of takers on this freebie that we thought would be much better received. Since we launched the opportunity in the summer, we aren’t sure if the heat and bugs dissuaded clients from taking us up on the offer or whether we just didn’t do our job getting the word out.
“Falling” forward, I am giving this great program another plug. A few weeks ago, our Office Manager, Beth, highlighted Metabolic Diet (for both dogs and cats) in her blog. Combine the diet piece and the exercise piece and you get a great end result of a fitter, healthier pet. Add into the mix, a nice family day at one of our State Parks (Ft McAllister, Wormsloe, Skidaway Island, Crooked River, Ft. King George, Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation, and Sapelo Island to name a few locally). Sound like a winning combination? Just come by the hospital and we will be glad to give you a free pass and any information we can provide to help your pet lose the weight that you want him to lose.
