Sesame Street's Elmo and friends ready for Savannah Civic Center takeover
Poor Grover has lost his superpowers and needs his friends’ help to get them back.
And in ‚ÄúSesame Street Live Elmo‚Äôs Super Heroes,‚ÄĚ all his friends all there ‚ÄĒ Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Zoe, Bert, Ernie, Count Von Count, Oscar the Grouch, Prairie Dawn, Grundgetta, Telly Monster, Rosita, Honker and even a new character named Kay.
The show will be presented three times June 19 and 20 at the Civic Center.
There are 28 people traveling with the show, including 17 performers who range in height from 4 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 2 inches so they can fit into the costumes.
Elmo stands 5 feet, while Big Bird is an impressive 8-foot-2. ‚ÄúElmo‚Äôs Super Heroes‚ÄĚ is one of three Sesame Street Live productions currently touring.
The show is produced and presented by VEE Corporation, under license of Sesame Workshop, which creates the popular television program the show is based on. A portion of every ticket sold goes to Sesame Workshop to fund educational programs for children at home and around the world.
Like the TV program, the show provides lessons in a fun way.
‚ÄúThis show teaches healthy habits through song and dance,‚ÄĚ says Kelly Suter, publicist for the VEE Corporation. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs a great opportunity for children to learn healthy habits in a fun new way.
‚ÄúSuper Grover is the star of the show,‚ÄĚ Suter says. ‚ÄúHe loses his superness because he‚Äôs not taking care of himself.‚ÄĚ
Elmo and his friends come to the rescue with advice about exercise, nutrition, sleeping, hygiene and other topics.
‚ÄúIt‚Äôs really fun, and there are a lot of recognizable songs,‚ÄĚ Suter says. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs something the entire family can enjoy, both young and old.‚ÄĚ
While the show is geared toward 2- to 6-year -olds, it truly is entertaining for all ages, Suter says. ‚ÄúI have been to a number of shows and I‚Äôve never seen anyone not smile or giggle,‚ÄĚ she says.
‚ÄúI‚Äôve seen grandparents singing along to songs like ‚ÄėOld McDonald‚Äô or ‚ÄėSunny Days,‚Äô‚ÄĚ Suter says. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs nostalgic for parents and some grandparents, and for kids, it‚Äôs like a rock show.‚ÄĚ
There‚Äôs plenty of action, humor and song. ‚ÄúI think everyone should get out there,‚ÄĚ Suter says. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs a good time. I like to rock out to Sesame Street myself.‚ÄĚ
