Hospital Administrator at Case Veterinary Hospital

Let me start this blog off right from the beginning with a disclosure.  I am prejudiced and very opinionated.  I also have an ulterior motive. I think Case Veterinary Hospital is one of the best hospitals in the country and I want to convince you as a reader that that statement is true.  Now that we have that out front….

Patient visits in hospitals across the United States are declining.  Veterinarians are seeing certain diseases on the rise due to pets not getting preventative care and screenings.  Case Veterinary Hospital is concerned for our patients here in Savannah.  Yes, declining visits means declining revenues, but more importantly, we are in the business of making pets well.  Our mission statement says, “We are committed to enhancing lives of families, caring for one pet at a time.”  We can’t complete our mission unless we see pets.

One of the mega studies conducted showed that there were 6 factors contributing to the overall decline of patient visits:

1.       Increased reliance on online resources for information and guidance for sick pets

2.       The economic recession

3.       Little understanding of the importance of routine exams

4.       Price sensitivity and new low cost vaccine clinics, spay/neuter clinics which do not do a comprehensive exam

5.       Difficulty bringing cats to the veterinarian

So how do we at Case combat these issues and continue our 103 year history of taking care of Savannah’s pets?  First and foremost, we continue to educate clients and prospective clients on how to keep their pets healthy longer.  We have a Facebook presence, we sponsor the lost and found section on the radio, we blog, we participate at local pet charity events, we have a robust website and, most importantly, we partner with our clients to ensure that they know how much we want their pet to live a healthy, long life.

We emphasize the physical exam portion of each pet’s visit.  Being proactive with preventative care is paramount in warding off disease.  We offer access to our client’s questions with our accessibility and with our web page.  We invest in our healthcare team and our doctors for continuing education so we can keep abreast of changes and new treatment plans in the veterinary field.  We provide premium care while working hard to keep costs to the clients affordable.  We always offer estimates and work with clients to help make the treatment plan outlined work for their budget.  Knowing that we are not located close to many of our client’s homes, we offer early drop off hours as well as Saturday hours.  We offer an online pharmacy that is very competitive with pricing for flea control and heartworm products as well as medications.

As an administrator, how do I know our large staff continues to give the service that the previous three generations of Cases have provided to Savannah?     I know because I hand pick our team.  I interview for core values and understanding of our mission.  I know because of client feedback and success stories with our patients every day.  I know because we surround ourselves with other veterinarians who have risen to the top of their fields by elevating Standards of Care.  I know because we are in the 15% of hospitals that are American Animal Hospital Association members and that we were inducted into the prestigious Veterinary Managers Group last year.  I know because I was one of the first Certified Veterinary Hospital Manager’s in the world and I continue to surround myself with managers who elevate our industry.  I know because I wouldn’t take my pets anywhere else.

Our hospital is not in a fancy building.  We can’t offer all that we would like to offer in the way of services.  What we do offer is great medicine at an affordable price that gives every patient individualized care.  We take 103 years of learning and challenge ourselves to grow every day a little more.  Yes, I am bragging.  I am proud of what we do on a daily, case by case basis.  We make mistakes, we learn from them, and we make changes to ensure it won’t happen again.  I would love for you to check us out and see for yourself.  Be sure to let me know if our team doesn’t meet your expectations.

We are committed to you and your pet!  We want to beat the declining patient visit trend!
