My son's enthusiastic support of the school book fair

I took my three children to the school book fair this week, allowing them each to pick out books within a budget. After browsing the shelves for a while, my daughter and my 3-year-old were finished so we were just waiting for my 6-year-old son to finalize his decisions.

So I was standing there gazing at the books when I heard my son speaking with the cashier mom. I went to investigate, and there was my son, picking out dollar-shaped erasers and holding his wallet. He had brought along his own money and was buying himself a treat.

The cashier mom asked him if that was all he was getting and he said yes. Then he added, “Well, I'm getting some books, too, but my mom's paying for those.”

The next day my son came home from school with a new pencil and another new book. He had taken his wallet to school again and made some last-minute purchases at the book fair.

That's my boy... most likely to see what he wants and find a way to get it. At a young age, he's already learning how to work the system and make things happen. Gotta watch that kid!
