How's Your Pace?

How's Your Pace?

Dear Coastal Mommies,

Do some dinnertime occasions feel like you are running a race at the speed of light?  Could you enter the record books for the pace in which you eat your meals?  There isn’t a cheerleader standing by your side nor is there a gold medal if you finish first.  Why not contemplate the rate in which you eat your food and approach your meal time settings with a calmer tempo?

Due to the fact that many women are just so darn busy with their schedules, their work on-goings, their family, not to mention the pace in which time seems to fly by now-a-days, it is no wonder how sometimes women seem to gobble down their food without a thought to what they are actually doing or slowing down their pace to contemplate their meal.  Below you will find some simple, time efficient behaviors that can promote calmness when enjoying food and set you up for weight loss success:

~Sit down: chances are if you are not planted in a chair you will eat faster because you are probably bouncing around and not taking the time to appreciate your food.  Taking a seat during any mealtime period is one of the best tactics to ensure a slower pace of eating.

~Just eat: if you are in the habit of doing three other jobs while you are attempting to eat your body gets caught up in multi tasking and you breeze right through feeding time without much thought to your menu, the pace in which you are proceeding and pay little attention to the happy state of your tummy.  Do not multi-task through your meals; one thing at a time.

~TV off:  watching television and enjoying your meal tend to swill together and you lose sight of your mealtime pace, not to mention the pure enjoyment that can be sought.  Turn off the box and concentrate on your food and only the pleasure of eating.

~Take a break: there’s nothing wrong with putting down your eating utensils and sitting back to enjoy your fare.  Take a breath between mouthfuls and appreciate your tastes, textures & smells.

~Dawdle: once your mouth is filled with your food take the time to appreciate your mouthfuls.  Feel what you are chewing, ponder the textures with your tongue, let your mouth experience the tastes and truly be aware of what you are choosing to fill your tummy with.

Rushing through your meals is not very beneficial to your health and well-being for various reasons: weight gain, unappreciated tummy, bloating, overeating and dissatisfaction with your meal.  Why not become more aware of your feeding frenzied pace and begin to slow down your process today.
